Two cops reassigned for alleged involvement in illegal drugs
Chief Superintendent Isagani Cuevas, Police Regional Office 6 director, yesterday confirmed that he has already initiated the reassignment of two policemen suspected of having involvement to illegal activities particularly the proliferation of illegal drugs. He, however, refused to divulge the identities of the two cops.
Cuevas said the reassignment is part of the reforms he is implementing to cleanse the image of the police in the region.
Cuevas said the two cops are suspected of having involvement with a drug lord in the city.
The reassignment is better than to conduct investigation against them and impose penalties without sufficient evidence, said Cuevas.
The regional director admitted that there is no strong evidence that would directly link the two cops to the unnamed drug lord.
Meanwhile, City Councilor Armand Parcon said it is very difficult to prove the association or links of a person in the illegal drugs trade unless the person is caught in the act. The mere association or public perception could not be considered body of evidence, he said.
Parcon's reaction was in response to the never ending stories on the alleged links of certain policemen and even city officials in the illegal drugs trade made public by Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. recently.
Parcon said he has been looking for the so-called dossier that contains the names of policemen, officials and drug lords but to no avail. If there is any report, the one who made the report should justify the content of the report, Parcon said.
The councilor added that the problem on illegal drugs should not be taken for granted as it already affected the city's 180 barangays. There is no barangay in the city that is not affected by illegal drugs.
The councilor also urged parents to keep watch of their children and their friends to protect them from the growing number of people using illegal drugs especially shabu.
