'Make and sing your jingle' competition up
The Citizens of Iloilo Coalition Against Tuberculosis, Inc. (CICAT) is inviting singing groups in Western Visayas to join in the "Make and Sing Your Jingle" Competition.
CICAT Chairman Dr. Malbar Ferrer said the contest is just one of the activities framed up by their group in line with the observance of the World TB Day on March 24.
CICAT is a coalition of both government and private sectors here in Iloilo that aims to promote the implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) prescribed anti-TB strategy which is known as Public Private Mix - Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (PPM-DOTS).
The competition is open to all singing groups whose members are at least 15 years of age and residents of Western Visayas.
The jingle must be in English, not to exceed one minute and thirty seconds and based on the theme of the contest "It's smart to know what we've got. If a 3-week cough is TB or not."
Dr. Ferrer said that TB or Tuberculosis is a disease caused by a bacterium which usually affects the lungs, and makes the infected person suffer from cough that lasts more than 2 or 3 weeks.
The World TB Day is initiated by WHO that marks the day of the discovery of the TB Bacillus by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882.

The ten finalists will perform live for the judgement and selection of the top three winners during the CICAT World TB day 2008 Dinner and Honor Lecturer on March 29, 2008 at Westown Hotel, Iloilo City.
