MIGEDC mayors off to Australia
Mayor Jerry Treñas and municipal mayors under the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) left Iloilo for a study tour in Adelaide, Australia.
Treñas, MIGEDC chair, and the members of the delegation left yesterday, March 24. The study tour will last until April 1, 2008. The study tour was upon the invitation of Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) Director Andrew Farncombe, head of the International Partnerships.
Aside from Treñas, mayors Arcadio Gorriceta of Pavia, Adolfo Jaen of Leganes, Vincent Flores of Oton, Isabelo Maquino of Sta Barbara and Gregorio Villarico of San Miguel and Guimaras mayors Samuel Gumarin of Buenavista, Cresente Chavez Jr. of Jordan, Alex Araneta of Nueva Valencia, Jimmy Gajo of San Lorenzo and Pedrito Gange of Sibunag were also invited to join the Australian study tour being members of the MIGEDC.
The study tour will introduce MIGEDC and local governance leaders to Australian approaches to and models on public-private community partnerships for local economic development, infrastructure development, regional development and local governance practices applicable to the Philippine context.
CUI made all the programme and logistical arrangements for the visit with funds provided by the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
With Treñas's trip, Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog was appointed as the OIC mayor of the city.
