DENR observes World Water Day
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) leads the international observance of World Water Day celebrated every 22nd March of each year. Since March 22 2008 fell on a Black Saturday of the Lenten Season, the country will mark the activity on March 24-28 as World Water Week.
With the theme "Ang Tubig ay Yaman at Buhay", DENR enjoins the cooperation of various sectors on the proper management of our water sources and waterways to include sewage and water generated from domestic and industrial sources. It also highlights the importance of sustainable development and protection of our country's water resources and river basins and the significance of clean water and proper sanitation.
Regional Executive Director Lormelyn E. Claudio said that here in Region VI, activities have been lined up to observe the celebration. These are hanging of streamers, exhibits in selected mall and the DENR regional office, and lectures on urban barangays.
She further said that there are many ways we can help, to conserve water and maintain the cleanliness of waterways through practical habits that we can start within the confines of our home.
Director Claudio urged everyone to constantly remember that water is life. "Let us get involved and participate in conserving and protecting our water sources," she said.
