Capiz to celebrate 107th foundation year
Roxas City -- A five-day activities are being prepared by the provincial government of Capiz from April 11 to 15 in view of the 107th anniversary of the establishment of its civil government.
"The forthcoming occasion is a rare opportunity for enhancing historical awareness and promotion of good citizenship which will indubitably raise the level of the sense of place of every Capiceño," said Capiz Tourism Operations Officer Officer-In-Charge Alphonsus D. Tesoro during his presentation about the 107th provincial charter anniversary celebration.
The 5-day proposed activities will be highlighted by a kick off caravan, tourism Olympics, Tingog Capiznon grand concert, heritage tours, and fireworks contest, among others.
The civil or provincial government of Capiz was created by virtue of Act 115 on April 15, 1901.
An ordinance declaring April 15 of every calendar year as the foundation day of the province "and to celebrate said occasion with fitting activity" was passed and approved by the Capiz Sangguniang Panlalawigan in 2003.
Capiceños also commemorate the death anniversary of the province's most illustrious son President Manuel Roxas every April 15.
The theme of the celebration is "Gintugyan nga Panubli-on: Handumanan kag Manggad sang Kapisnon." (PIA)
