Cops detain 'amok' grandpa
Police in Tubungan, Iloilo now have in custody the 40 year-old attacker of a 4 year-old boy as family members grieve over the tragic incident.
All in the family with the suspect the grandfather of the boy, witnesses failed to help the victim who was unfortunately within his reach when he had an apparent nervous breakdown.
Radio reports heard witness accounts that identified the 40 year-old as Johnny Servas of Barangay Poblacion of said town, the uncle of the boy's mother. Family members told reporters that he had since sought medical treatment for a longtime psychiatric illness.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon when the boy was with his mother Analyn for his afternoon bath. Servas apparently had a sudden attack, got himself a weapon and first hacked Analyn on the head and her back. The boy's mother managed to run yet left behind the boy and his 2 year-old sibling.
Her escape angered Servas even more with the witnesses saying he then made a sudden attack on the helpless 4 year-old. The boy suffered fatal head wounds while the 2 year-old was fortunately saved by a retired policeman-neighbor. (Florence F. Hibionada)
