Where are our graduates heading for?
Year after year, both public and private schools turn out thousands of college graduates. Only this year, about 400,000 graduates finished high school and college education. Many high school graduates may not be able to pursue higher education but settle for looking employment to help their parents and younger family members pursue high school and college degrees. But lucky are the nursing graduates for they have ready employment here and abroad. Luckier are vocational graduates like welders, plumbers, carpenters, mechanics, construction workers and other related vocational courses for they have assured jobs in the Middle East and other Arab countries. For education graduates, the field in this country is still fertile for there are thousands of teachers retiring effective this summer.
TESDA is a government technical and vocational agency that has played in employing hundreds of graduates here and abroad. There are young people who want to become executives and office managers and there are only a few vacancy. Commerce graduates are lucky if they land a job in private and government offices. However many go into businesses and trust that government banks will charge low interest rates on borrowed money. Men and women who are graduates of Hotel & Management course but specialize in cooking are in demand in food businesses abroad. The Caregiver course is also in demand as many old and rich people need the services of caregiver attendants.
Housewives, and women prefer domestic employment abroad but many end up in disastrous incidents. A number of female workers in the Middle East are reportedly facing criminal charges for the crime they were forced to not of their own liking. Their foreign employers bodily abused them and they could not help but defend their chastity and honor. The Philippine government officials led by Pres. Gloria Arroyo are doing their level best to negotiate with foreign dignitaries to free Filipino domestic helpers who are in dire help.
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other Asian and Pacific countries are open for migrants. But their going to these places to seek greener pasteurs are met with difficulties as fellow government officials in immigration, customs, DFA, etc. are reportedly asking sizeable grease money. Many go to the Middle East countries and make these places a diving board for going to other European and Western countries where there are plenty of milk and honey.
If only graft and corruption will be stopped or minimized in our country, the millions of dollars and pesos going to the pockets of dishonest government officials may be sufficient to put up infrastructure projects where thousands of graduates can be helped. Why are many Christian and non-Christian Filipinos corrupt? Don't they fear God? Don't they know that if they keep on committing mortal sins, their destiny is eternal punishment in the lake of fire? Jesus Christ is coming soon! Listen to evangelists and preachers over radio and television networks and your life will be transformed from hell-destiny to heaven-bound. Accept Jesus Christ as your saviour and redeemer, repent of your sins, be born again and read daily the Bible and your crown will be an eternal life.
