The Days Hotel's Promenade was recently the venue for the intimate birthday lunch of lawyer-writer Cornelio "Kune" Panes. Now 54, "Atty. Kune" and friends took time out from that Monday's busy schedule to celebrate years of strengthened friendship.
Diagnosed with cancer in mid-2007, Atty. Kune was most gracious the entire time saying his faith has kept him going and will keep him going; cancer and all.
Born in 1954, he said he is one who only wanted the simple things in life – family and friends, education, art and life itself.

"I consider myself a short-distance runner, achieving what I want in time frames with precision. I hope to spend the rest of my life reading books and writing," he shared with this writer. "Life is about learning that one has a choice to be hopeful rather than be hopeless. It is about choosing faith rather than react from fear. It is about enjoying life rather than merely surviving it."
He also lives by this inspiration - "When the wisdom of God is at work in our life, we look at life through leaves of perception and we respond to it in calm confidence."
