MIWD puts in place measures to ensure potable water supply to consumers
The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) has employed necessary precautionary measures to avert contamination of its water supply.
This was the assurance made by MIWD Interim General Manager Edwin R. Reyes in a letter addressed to the Sangguniang Panlungsod here.
"We are doing extra mile in safeguarding the health of the public," Reyes said.
Reyes said MIWD has increased the "flushing frequency of its transmission lines and install additional chlorinating units to further guarantee potability of water supply."
He added they have already disinfected their distribution lines in four areas to include the approach of the Carpenters Bridge in Mandurriao district; Tanza Bonifacio; Iznart Street; and Bgy. De la Rama.
A daily analysis of water samples from their sampling points within their service area is also being conducted.
"We have been conducting barangay dialogues within our service area to inform and educate the public on the proper use of water and hygiene and sanitation practices. The series of dialogue started last month in the waterfront area and this will cover all barangays in the city," Reyes added.
To recall the high cases of typhoid fever in the city in March this year was partly blamed to the dilapidated pipelines of the MIWD, believed to have been contaminated.
MIWD is the water utility provider of the city and several adjacent municipalities of the province of Iloilo. (PNA)
