Best Public Sector Projects awardees reflect gov't priorities
Winning projects in the 2nd Regional Development Council (RDC) awards for Best Public Sector Projects 2006-2007 are supporting the priorities in Western Visayas. It also reflects the national government priorities especially on the food security concerns.
Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Secretary Cerge Remonde said the winning projects represents best practice and best concept. It also focused on employment, environment, tourism, training, entrepreneurship, health, food and security concerns.
"The nine winning projects in the three categories and their eight runners up are the embodiment of innovation and vision, ingenuity and industry. It has a tenacity of purpose to be the best using resources and facilities at hand," said Remonde.
"The awarding rites is more than being a platform to showcase the paragons of change and local governance but it is a way to the future. It is a way to look and go. If there is anything that our efforts, successes and achievements teach us, it is that we can achieve the full potential of our talent and energy," he added.
The winners in the local government units category are (1st place) Bacolod Information Technology (IT) Investment Program; (2nd place) Marine Engine Swap to Reforestation Project (Negros Occidental) and (3rd) Guisi Community-Based Heritage Tourism Project (Guimaras).
The entry of Negros State College of Agriculture dubbed as Food-Always-in-The-Home (FAITH) Garden Plus Project won first place in the state universities and colleges category. The 2nd place went to University of the Philippine in the Visayas (UPV) for its project entitled Towards Community-Managed Peace and Development Initiatives in Leon, Iloilo. The 3rd place is the Establishment and Sustainability of Farmers-Teachers in the Agrarian Reform Communities in Aklan by the Aklan State University.
In the regional line agencies category, the 1st place went to the Department of Trade and Industry in Western Visayas for its Comprehensive Marketing Program for the Floriculture Industry of Capiz; 2nd place is the Rehabilitation of Aganan River Irrigation System and Enhancement of Agricultural Support Service of the National Irrigation Administration, Western Visayas and 3rd place is the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP) of the Department of Science and Technology 6.
