Power sector meets to address rotating brownouts
The city's problem on rotating brownouts everyday is expected to be threshed out after a meeting with top officials of the National Power Corporation (Napocor), National Transmission Corporation (Transco), Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco) and Panay Power Corporation (PPC).
Mayor Jerry Treñas said he was assured by top officials of Napocor of a doable solution for the daily power interruptions which affect the business operations in the city particularly the call centers. Napocor officials wanted to help the city over its power woes.
Officials of Napocor, Transco, Peco and PPC met yesterday.
Treñas said the result of the meeting will be made known to the public either today or tomorrow.
The rotating power outages here is brought about by the supply deficiency in the Cebu-Negros-Panay Grid, which in turn is caused by the maintenance works on several power plants in the Visayas operated by Napocor, and the preventive maintenance schedule on one engine of PPC which will take two months.
The Palinpinon Geothermal Power Plant in Negros Oriental and other power barges assigned to Iloilo are undergoing scheduled preventive maintenance. The Pinamucan Power Plant is only producing 40 megawatts (MW) instead of its 110MW rated capacity, affecting Napocor's 15MW commitment to Peco.
Earlier, Treñas asked the help of the business sector in calling for the transfer to Iloilo of Power Barge 104 (PB 104)stationed in Davao which has a capacity of 28 megawatts.
The Iloilo Local Development Council, Iloilo Business Club (IBC) and Iloilo Doctor's College have already requested President Arroyo's intervention for the transfer of PB 104. Presidential Management Staff Secretary Cerge Remonde, in his visit to Iloilo City also assured of his help for the transfer of the barge here.
