Concepcion amends town's Fishery Code
The Municipality of Concepcion has now passed an Ordinance amending the town's existing Fishery Code.
An apparent take-off on the controversial version of neighboring town Carles, Iloilo, Municipal Ordinance No. 1, Series of 2008 was passed and seeking procedural approval of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP).
The Concepcion Ordinance is called "An Ordinance providing for the sustainable management conservation and development of coastal and fishery resources of the Municipality of Concepcion, Province of Iloilo amending for such purpose the existing Fishery Ordinance of this Municipality."
SP deliberation is set today with the request topping the agenda under Municipal Matters.
Concepcion like Carles, is a coastal town north of Iloilo.
Mayor Elizabeth Salcedo in an earlier SP visit told the body that she was inclined to follow what Carles did in coming up with a comprehensive Fishery Ordinance.
Similar sentiments then voiced by Batad Mayor Elvira Alarcon saying it is the prerogative and responsibility of every local government unit to put up support systems and protection for its fishers and fishery resources.
