'Pagalang sa Watawat' campaign kicks off May 26
ROXAS CITY – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in collaboration with the National Historical Institute (NHI) will launch the "Paggalang sa Watawat" campaign on May 26, 2008 to kick off the celebration of the National Flag day on May 28 and Independence Day on June 12.
A simultaneous flag raising is set on May 26 in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and Baguio City in view of the campaign launch.
This was revealed by Civil Service Commission (CSC) Acting Chairman Cesar D. Buenaflor in an announcementrecently to heads of constitutional bodies, departments, bureaus and agencies of the national government, local government units, government-owned or controlled corporations with original charters, and state universities and colleges.
PIA Director General Conrado A. Limcaoco said this year's theme for the flag campaign is "Igalang and Watawat, sa Isip, sa Salita at sa Gawa which aims to promote public awareness on good citizenship values such as love of country, respect for the flag and the elderly, patriotism and nationalism.
The CSC announcement has enjoined all government agencies to actively participate in the activities organized to ensure success for the campaign.
The agencies are encouraged to participate in the May 26 simultaneous flag raising ceremonies, put up streamers at their respective offices to announce the 2008 Independence Day, and the June 12 festivities which include job fair, and One-Town One Product (OTOP) exhibits, among others.
The 110th Independence Day celebration may be disseminated by the concerned agencies in their newsletters, online websites, and the mass media. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
