Capiz schools division is nat'l 'brigada eskwela' awardee
ROXAS CITY – The Capiz Division of the Department of Education (DepEd) is a national awardee in the implementation of National Schools Maintenance Week (NSMW) or Brigada Eskwela in 2007.
According to Education Supervisor and Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Salvador Ochavo, Jr., they are set to receive the Brigada Eskwela National Award on May 16 in Manila.
Ochavo revealed that two public national high schools in Capiz last year were included in the top 10 awardees in Western Visayas .
Maayon National High School in Maayon town placed 2nd and Capiz National High School in Roxas City posted 6th among the public secondary schools in Region VI, he said.
For this year, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus once again called and enjoined all public schools to rally community support for the Brigada Eskwela set on June 2-7 in time for the nationwide opening of classes on June 10 for both elementary and high schools.
While no cash donations are accepted, materials for cleaning, repair and beautification can be contributed, Lapus said, noting that in 2003, P153.16 M were generated through donations, services and volunteer hours.
In 2007, some P2.3B worth of support from the community was documented, he said.
Meanwhile, Ochavo disclosed that Maayon NHS last year has generated some P1.2 million labor services.
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide schools maintenance program that draws all education stakeholders – including the private sector -- to contribute their time, efforts and resources to ensure that public schools are physically ready for the opening of classes. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
