Board Member Rojas wants justice for slain vice-mayor cousin

Bring the culprits – whoever they are – to the arms of the law.
Such was the call of Fifth District Board Member Jett Rojas, cousin of slain Ajuy Vice Mayor Ramon Rojas Jr.
In an emotional privilege speech yesterday at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Board Member Rojas condemned Thursday's killing while calling for extensive action from various law enforcement agencies.
From the Iloilo Provincial Police Office to the Police Regional Office 6, Board Member Rojas had a similar appeal – exhaust all measures not only to investigate but more importantly, to solve the murder.
"It is only when justice is done that Vice Mayor Rojas could rest in peace," he said.
"It was indeed a very shocking incident and nobody expected that such a cruel end would come to the Vice Mayor who was known to all and everyone to be a man of peace. But it was perhaps, the result of his many involvements in the development of Ajuy that cost him his life," his speech went. "...Vice Mayor Rojas became an advocate of many progressive ideas that angered some influential people in Ajuy. It was his advocacies that perhaps earned him the ire of certain vested and political interest."
Board Member Rojas then went ahead to highlight the political career of his cousin saying the slain vice mayor "had many dreams for the people of Ajuy."
"He wanted to see people living in peace and prosperity and among his interests was making Ajuy a tourist haven, a model for environmental protection and of course, a community where peace and order would be a common experience for all the people in his municipality," he continued.
Board Member Rojas assured then that the unfinished job by his slain cousin will be continued "by us whom he has left behind."
Police on Monday filed murder cases against Edgar Cordero of Lambunao, Iloilo and Dennis Cartagena alias "Totong" of San Enrique, Iloilo for the killing of Vice Mayor Rojas.
The two suspects were identified based on the testimonies of Brgy. Captain Armando Nacional, who was with Rojas when the shooting happened, and the owner of the safehouse in Barotac Viejo where the two suspects staged the murder plan.
Authorities, however, could not yet ascertain the motive as well as the mastermind in the killing of the vice mayor.
