DA opens Barangay Bagsakan center in Passi City
More than 21,000 households from eight barangays of Passi City in Iloilo province are expected to benefit from Western Visayas's first Barangay Bagsakan (BB) cooperative-operated center in Sitio Apga, Barangay Jaguimitan.
The BB project, that was launched over the weekend, will serve as a 'barangay-based food depot and food distribution system.'
"The project intends to directly link farmers and fisherfolks-producers to the consumers. This project is a community participated retail food distribution center," the project briefer stated.
The center will be managed by the Jaguimitan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (JARBEMCO) which is composed mainly of agrarian reform beneficiaries.
The center is expected to cater to about 21,856 households from barangays Alimono, Agtabo, Dalicanan, Gemumua Agahon, Magdungao, Salngan, Tagubong and Jaguimitan.
It is hoped that the center would provide sufficient foods that are of good quality, safe and low priced.
Agriculture regional executive director for Western Visayas Larry Nacionales and local officials of Passi City graced the project's launching. (PNA)
