TESDA scholarship grants out as Guam offers jobs for 20,000 Pinoy workers
Good news to every Filipino in dire need of a job.
At least 20,000 job offers are up for grabs to qualified applicants that will do construction work and construction-related works in United States territory, Guam.
With reported preference for Filipinos, the job offers formed part of Saturday's highlights of the "Consultation on Jobs" with top executives of the Philippine Association of Service Exporters Inc. (PASEI).
The consultation was conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) graced by TESDA Director-General, Secretary Augusto Boboy Syjuco. The secretary's wife, Second District Representative Judy Jalbuena-Syjuco was also present bearing yet more good news for her constituents in said consultation.
The workforce as needed is targeted in the next three to five-year hiring period with the labor demand intended for the expansion of a US military base in Guam.
As such, TESDA inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with PASEI represented by its president, Victor Fernandez and Noel Litan, PASEI Director.
TESDA as for MOA provision will assume the responsibility of preparation of needed skills training, course designs and course materials. TESDA will also be tasked on the recruitment and screening of applicants alongside the needed assessment.
PASEI for its part vowed to facilitate placement of the trained and certified graduates of TESDA.
"We have always believed in investing on our people and we have always believed on the potential of every Filipino worker," Secretary Syjuco in his message said.
In a recent article published by the Philippine Business Report (May 2008 edition), Guam Mayor Paul McDonald was quoted as having confirmed the preference for Filipino workers.
The mayor described Filipinos as "hardworking, skillful and most importantly, proficient in the English language."
"Communication and our shared culture are practical reasons why we prefer Filipino workers over other nationalities," the report quoting the mayor continued.
With the Guam job offers, TESDA was likewise in the forefront of thousands of job openings in Japan with manning agencies present during the job fair in Sta. Barbara Thursday.
