City officials warn vs. water borne diseases
Acting Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the problems on the shortage of potable drinking water in the city must be addressed to avoid water borne diseases.
The city is experiencing a shortage in potable drinking water after a main water pipeline of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) was destroyed in Barangay Amerang, Cabatuan.
The water district has imposed a water rationing to deliver the water needs of its consumers.
Aside from water rationing, Mayor Jerry Treñas also asked all the water refilling stations to extend assistance and assure the supply of water and in its regular price. Treñas will be back in his office today.
Mabilog said residents specifically those in typhoon affected barangays must take extra precautions in consuming drinking water. Unsafe or unsanitary drinking water cause diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, influenza, dengue, typhoid and other water borne disease.
City health workers were ordered to disseminate information against the spread of water borne disease from consuming unsafe and unclean drinking water.
To augment the drinking water needs of the people, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri pledged to donate bottled water. While, Iloilo flood way project consultant of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ito Keigo also pledged to donate 1,000 bottles of five liters of bottled water for the flood victims.
Several other water refilling companies pledged to give water donations to the thousands of typhoon victims in Iloilo City.
