'Frank' kills 18 Capiceños
ROXAS CITY – The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) of Capiz has recorded a total of 18 casualties as of 2 o'clock in the afternoon, June 24.
Aside from the casualties, 14 persons were injured and eight others were reportedly still missing.
Based on the report of the PDCC, chaired by Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco, some 53,974 families or 310,763 individuals were affected by typhoon Frank. However, no data so far is available from the towns of Maayon and Sigma.
The partial report on the totally damaged houses totaled to 4,933 while there were about 21,320 houses that were partially damaged, Civil Defense Deputized Coordinator Arnold Talabucon noted.
On the other hand, partial report submitted by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) to the PDCC through the various Municipal and City Disaster Coordinating Council showed that some 13,750 hectares of rice plantation was damaged by said typhoon.
The damage on corn plantation was recorded at 3,470.25 hectares, Talabucon said.
Meanwhile, Gov. Tanco led the aerial inspection and distribution of relief goods in the coastal barangays of Panay and Pontevedra towns.
According to Talabucon, two chopper planes had distributed this afternoon the province's relief goods to the five coastal barangays of Panay, Capiz, and in Manapao, Pontevedra town.
Most of the low-lying areas in Capiz remain underwater, Talabucon said, stressing that some barangays in Panay and Pontevedra towns are non-passable. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
