Where art thou?
The so-called environmentalists say the flash floods that hit most of Iloilo city and province over the weekend was already a result of global warming. We believe so. But where are they at this time when almost everybody is joining forces in order to help those families badly affected by the flood? Instead of just holding protest rallies why can't they utilize their resources now to help their fellowmen? Puro lang reklamo, wala man nabulig.
Hoax text messages
It is sad to note that at these time of crisis there are still people who, instead of helping, complicates the situation by spreading disinformation that creates panic among the public especially the flood victims. Take for instance the text message that spread Tuesday night threatening that the "tinagong dagat" in the mountains of Lambunao will overflow. People from Calinog, Mina, Janiuay and Lambunao itself scampered to high places for fear that flash floods will again hit their areas. Many people did not sleep that night afraid that the raging waters will come anytime. It turned out the text message was a hoax! Whoever was responsible for spreading such disinformation should be thrown to "tinagong dagat"!
Mayor Betsy's complaint
Concepcion Mayor Betsy Salcedo was heard over Bombo Radyo yesterday complaining that her town did not receive rice assistance from the provincial government despite the fact that hundreds of her people are also a victim of typhoon Frank. Mayor Salcedo surmised that Gov. Niel Tupas is playing politics even at this time of calamity. The Concepcion mayor was not under the governor's political camp during the last election. Well, we didn't hear yet the explanation of Gov. Tupas regarding Mayor Betsy's complaint. Nevertheless, we hope our officials should set aside politics in this time of need.
