Distribution of relief goods to typhoon-hit areas continues
There are enough supplies of relief goods that are waiting to be dispatched to worst typhoon ravaged areas in Panay Island, according to Lt. Col. Oscar Lasangue of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Civil Relations Unit.
Lasangue said since day one of the relief distribution, the AFP, together with the United States Forces through their H60 sea hawk helicopters, have made 49 sorties to various calamity areas in Panay.
He added they have made 24 sorties to various affected areas in Iloilo to include three in Carles town and an additional six in Sicogon Island and four in Isla de Gigantes both island barangays of Carles; six in Concepcion town; four in the Municipality of Calinog and one to the town of Leon.
In Aklan, the helicopters have made 19 trips to include six in Madalag; four each to Numancia and Malinao towns and three in New Washington.
Six trips were also dispatched to San Remegio in Antique.
Aside from the goods that were already distributed to said areas, Lasangue added that there remain aids coming from the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other non-government organizations that are extending support.
Lasangue also belied reports that the distribution of relief goods was temporarily stopped after reports came out that the C-130 plane that carries donated goods from the Villamor Air Base to Iloilo suffered some technical problem.
"That is not true," he said. (PNA)
