P4M lost in ISCOF fire
The worth of damage of the fire that hit 3 buildings inside the Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) in Brgy. Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo early morning yesterday has been initially placed to reach P4 million.
Dr. Isabela Mahler, ISCOF President, in a radio interview said further inventory is being made to ascertain the total amount of damage.
Mahler said the burned buildings actually are already old having existed for about fifty years.
Fire Officer Odessa Velayro of Office of the Provincial Fire Marshall said the fire occurred around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. It took fire personnel about two hours to finally put off the fire because the buildings were mostly made of light materials.
Based on the initial findings of arson investigators the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
The burned buildings include the old teachers educational building, the extension building and the practice house of ISCOF students.
Mahler said a still undetermined number of computers and supplies inside the said buildings turned into ashes.
She, however, said that school operations remain normal since there are still vacant classrooms where the affected classes could be temporarily transferred.
Mahler added that she has already called the Department of Budget and Management to ask for funds for the procurement of 200 chairs to replace those that had been burned. EC Garcia
