Magallanes 1stCAPSU lady president
ROXAS CITY – Capiz State University (CapSU) has already its new president.
Dr. Editha Lavezores. Magallanes, the former Vice President for Administration and Finance of said university has already taken her oath of office, July 5, after a 12-man Board of Regents had chosen her as the new president.
Magallanes, the first lady president of CapSU, replaced Dr. Rochellir Dadivas after the latter's nearly 14 years of service as the university's top official.
The turn over ceremony was held July 7 at CapSU main campus in Roxas City, with Commissioner Hadja Luningning Misuarez Umar of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and some presidents from various State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) in the country gracing the occasion.
Other guests during said activity here included Regional Director Ro-Ann Bacal of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Western Visayas and former Capiz Congressman Rodriguez Dadivas, who was very instrumental in the conversion of said institution into a state university.
According to Magallanes, she rose from the ranks of academic positions and administrative experiences before holding the highest university post.
She said she "grew up professionally with the Capiz Agricultural and Fishery School (CAFS) to Panay State Polytechnic College (PSPC) and now CapSU."
Magallanes stressed "my exposure to various aspects of the University's operation in academic and administrative activities provided me valuable managerial as well as administrative insights."
The lady president said that with her leading the only university in Capiz, she hopes to serve more Capiceños by making said school here one of the centers of academic excellence in the country.
She added that CapSU as a higher education institution shall be a player in academic excellence, quality research, extension services, productivity enhancement, sustainable development, global competitiveness and the vehicle of peace and values formation.
CapSU, with 10 campuses in the province of Capiz, is one of the country's 110 SUCs that are being mobilized by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the government's food production drive, particularly under the FIELDS program.
Magallanes was born in Cambalong, Merida, Leyte and married to Arturo Distura Magallanes of Cogon, Panitan Capiz with whom she has four children.
"From a poor barrio girl, God has brought me to a pinnacle of success of which I am very grateful to Him," Magallanes said. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
