NFA's stench poses health hazards
I wonder what the National Food Authority officials or the local government could sort out to the sickening stench that is coming from the NFA after thousands of sacks of rice have been saturated with flood caused by the typhoon Frank. Residents and small establishments in the vicinity particularly along Quintin Salas St. have long been suffering since from the strong smell that is coming from the NFA area. People who are exposed daily to the odor are reportedly getting sick and children are brought to the hospitals for various illnesses, among them are stomachache, fever, difficulty in breathing, cough, asthma, and sore throat. Perhaps the local government can conduct an inspection or order a memorandum to the NFA officials to quickly pace the cleaning process or summon an immediate resolution to fully eradicate the smell before it can increase the number of people, elders and children above all, to acquire unwanted illnesses.
The stench is also slowing down the people's normal activities as they opt to stay in one place and if possible, not breathe. Air quality is important for maintaining a good health and many are concerned to the possible health hazards the stench have affected and may affect more from their family members. The community urgently seeks help for those who are concern to take action and solve this problem as soon as possible. —Hacel Du-Chua
Justice for Bona Marie…
It has been more than eight months since the death of Bona Marie Catedral but justice is still nowhere in sight. Bona Marie was a Management student of the University of the Philippines and an outgoing SK Chair of Barangay Jayubo, Lambunao, when she was shot at close range inside their home on the evening of October 23, 2007. Preliminary investigations were conducted by the police but they yielded little results. However, there was sufficient evidence to suggest that there was foul play involved.
The Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) had planned on suing Bona Marie's father, Lambunao Vice Mayor Pancho Catedral, for his non-cooperation in the said investigation—the Vice Mayor and the rest of his family refused to undergo paraffin testing. Was the case filed? What is the Vice Mayor hiding? How did the final police report read? Was the whole case dismissed as a simple case of suicide? We hold the IPPO, CIDG and Senior Inspector Elmer Armada, Lambunao police chief, to account. And what about the good Mayor Reynor Gonzales? Isn't he supposed to be a be-medaled police general? What has he done to help solve the case? It has been more than eight months.
We demand justice. —Concerned Citizen (thru e-mail)
