Pacman to visit, bring aid to typhoon victims in Iloilo, Bacolod
BACOLOD CITY -- Bacolod's adopted son Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is set to visit the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod on Thursday as announced by Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia.
Pacquiao will give P1 million for Bacolod City, P1.5 million for Iloilo City and P500,000 for Aklan.
Leonardia said Pacquiao will first visit Iloilo City on Thursday morning and then he will proceed to Bacolod City via chopper and will land at the old Bacolod airport.
There will be a motorcade in the city and a program will be held at the City Hall grounds.
Leonardia said that the P1 million that the Filipino boxing hero will give to Bacolod will benefit 6,000 families who are victims of typhoon Frank.
Leonardia said that Bacolod is the biggest pound-for-pound beneficiary of Pacquiao.
Rey Golingan, President of the Amateur Boxing of the Philippines – General Santos City said that Bacolod will get a lion share as an adopted son of Bacolod as he always receive a warm welcome from Bacolodnons.
The P1 million from Pacquiao will be deposited to the account of the Bacolod Airport Lions Club through President Glen Botavara.
Leonardia said that he is happy that Pacquiao has responded to his request for the latter to visit Bacolod and give help to the typhoon victims.
"This is the only favor I asked from Manny. I never receive any single centavo from him. I consider him a blessing for Bacolod," Leonardia said.
Pacquiao will be given a recognition as "Bugal sang Bacolod" and July 17, 2008 will be declared as the Manny Pacquaio day in Bacolod. During his visit in the city in 2006, he was also given recognition as the "Dungganon nga Bacolodnon".
