Homeless evacuees
Many families are still staying in the evacuation centers. They don't have houses to return to because the flood washed them out. What these people need now is money that they could use to buy materials so they could start building their house. Relief packs being distributed to them everyday is not enough, it is only a palliative measure. Maybe the city government could spare these people some amount from the cash donations it received so they could start building their new lives. Apparently, talks about moving them to the city's relocation sites are baloney.
'Good deeds'
It is sad to note that there are politicians who cannot move or extend help without letting the people know of their so-called "good deeds." Take for instance these popular city official who actively conducted relief operations here and there but not without a cameraman in tow and huge tarps bearing his face and name. Worse, even the goods being distributed are also marked with the politician's name. Ridiculous isn't it?
Hot issue of the day
The clergy has threatened politicians supporting moves to pass the proposed Reproductive Health Act that they could not receive communion. The church people also warned that they would campaign against them during the elections. Again, the debate on whether to pass a law to promote artificial means of family planning has resurrected. Since time immemorial this issue always makes waves and has stirred the Catholic church. But then, our population continues to grow. We are now 90 million Filipinos! For sure, even the church knows the consequences this third world country of ours face with having too much population. What are they doing then?
