City without city hall
A city or municipal hall serves as the show window of a city or municipality. That is why all cities or towns in the country have one. Even the poorest town strives to maintain a presentable municipal hall where the people transact business and government officials conduct office. That is why the idea of Mayor JPT to just acquire an existing building instead of building a city hall is very unacceptable. A highly urbanized city like Iloilo City should have its own city hall. The lack of budget should not deter the mayor from pursuing the plan to construct a new city hall which has long been dreamed by the Ilonggos. If smaller cities like Passi City could build its own city hall how come Iloilo City cannot? The realization of the city's dream to have its own city hall now depends on the resourcefulness of Mayor JPT. It's too early to give up mayor.
Housing recipients
The plan of the city government to transfer families living along creeks and river banks or "danger zones" to the San Isidro relocation site in Jaro is a welcome development. However, we just hope that the actual recipients would be those people whose houses were washed out by floods. Basi bala kon pareho sa iban nga relocation site nga pati manggaranon benepisyaryo. We hope Icupao should screen very well the recipients.
