Water potability results known today
The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) is set to release today its latest laboratory results on the service water they are providing their consumers. The water district resumed more than 70 percent of its total operation after its main pipeline in Barangay Amerang, Cabatuan was completely rehabilitated.
An employee of the water district who asked for anonymity said the result of the latest water laboratory test is already in the office of Engr. Jean Villagracia, MIWD's surface water manager. Villagracia is the right person who can read the result before any advisory is released to the public.
Water coming from the water district's pipelines was turbid and its potability not certain when they resumed their operations last week.
The water supply in the city was affected after Typhoon Frank destroyed MIWD's main pipeline that provides water to consumers in the city and other nearby towns in Iloilo. Last week, the water district issued an advisory that the water is not yet safe for drinking but could be used in different household purposes.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jerry Treñas urged the public to boil the water as drinking unsafe water may lead to water borne diseases. The city has been in the forefront of the information campaign to prevent water borne diseases.
The City Health Office (CHO) is providing chlorine to those residents who need it to make their water potable and safe.
The chief executive said water treatment would be transferred in areas where it is still deemed necessary as soon as the water supply is resumed and its potability is assured by the water district.
