Capiz crime rate dips in past 6 months
ROXAS CITY – There is a decrease in the Average Monthly Crime Rate (AMCR) in the province for the period January to June of this year.
This was revealed in a crime situation report by the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) which showed that the AMCR for the period is 6.52 percent for every 100,000 population.
"The figure is 1.25 percent lower compared to 7.77 registered for the same period last year," the report noted.
At the national level, Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesman, Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome said overall Index Crime went down further by 2.63% with corresponding single digit decline in Murder and Physical Injuries, and 10.8% decrease in Homicide cases citing records from the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM).
"Overall, the past six months was generally better compared with the same period last year. Although there is a 1.92% increase in Total Crime Volume, much of this increase is attributed to Non-Index Crime cases which make up 45.7% of all recorded crimes," Bartolome said.
Among the Index Crime cases, cases categorized as Crimes Against Persons (murder, homicide, physical injury, rape) went down by 5.12%, while Crimes Against Property (Robbery and Theft) was slightly up by 0.72% in the 1st Semester of 2008.
The Total Crime Volume during the 6-month period is 34,512 crime incidents, and the PNP was able to solve 30,800 or 89.24% of these cases, which is 3.10% better than its Crime Solution performance in 2007. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
