MIWD's newly rehabilitated pipeline destroyed anew
Even before the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) could release the laboratory result to ascertain the potability of water it distributes, three of its main transmission pipes Barangay Amerang, Cabatuan were again destroyed after a heavy downpour last Tuesday night. The destruction will again disrupt water supply in several areas in Iloilo City.
MIWD OIC Ernesto Caberoy said two 250 mm pipelines and a 150 mm pipeline was destroyed after heavy rains result to strong water current in the river. The water district has rented a bulldozer to deviate the flow of water to fasttrack the rehabilitation of its damaged pipelines.
The same pipeline which connects the water coming from the town of Maasin to the MIWD reservoir in Sta. Barbara was destroyed during Typhoon Frank. The water district has just completed its repair works on the damaged pipeline in Amerang. The repair was just a temporary solution to the problem.
Caberoy said it will take more or less three days to repair the damaged water pipelines. The speed of the work to repair the damaged pipelines will depend on the weather condition.
With the damaged water pipelines, the water supply in some districts in Iloilo City such as Lapaz, Jaro, Bo. Obrero and City Proper will be affected. The water district will try its best to immediately repair all the damage and resume the normal water service operation.
Last week, the water district was able to resume 70 percent of its operation and is about to release the result of their water laboratory result when its water pipeline was once again destroyed by flood. The water district will try to resume the water supply among its consumers at the earliest possible time, said Caberoy.
