Capiz solon rehabs typhoon damaged infra in province
ROXAS CITY – Second District Representative Fredenil H. Castro, through his Countryside Development Fund, is currently rehabilitating river control, infrastructure and national highways as they were badly damaged by typhoon Frank last June 21. The typhoon caused flash floods and landslides in several towns of the 2nd district of Capiz.
OIC District Engineer Hector Gargoles of the 2nd Engineering District told The News Today that some P50 million worth of infrastructure and national highways were destroyed by typhoon Frank.
Gargoles, who assumed office as district engineer May this year, said that Castro is working for the budget from the national government. He added that Castro has many ongoing projects such as the concreting of national highways from Dumarao, Capiz to Kalibo, Aklan. The projects are expected to be completely finished before the year ends.
According to the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council report, typhoon Frank caused P133,935,000 worth of damage on buildings, P550,255,500 on roads and P 43,250,00 on bridges in the entire province of Capiz.
As of the latest count, there were 24 persons who died, 134 injured and 11 missing while 7,355 houses were totally damaged and 32,653 were partially damaged. Some 351,812 persons and 62,286 families were affected.
Estimated damage on fisheries amounted to P 259,047,945; rice, P 274,730,703.40; corn, P 98,662,653.00; banana, P 6,874,610; mango, P 3,444,700; root crops, P 2,102,500; vegetables, P 1,800,000 and assorted fruit tress, P 2,084,500.00.
Politicians including Senator Mar Roxas, 1st District Congressman Antonio del Rosario, 2nd District Congressman Fredenil Castro, Governor Victor Tanco, Sr., Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo and the rest of the 16 municipal mayors of Capiz are helping each other for relief operations to the typhoon victims.
