Treñas denies P80 kickback from salaries of casual workers
City Mayor Jerry Treñas denied rumors spreading through text message that he is getting P80 each as kickback from the salaries of the 260 casual workers hired by the city government for its clean up operation.
Treñas clarified that workers are only being paid P200 per day and there is no truth to the alleged P80 kickbacks. Apparently irritated by the text messages, the chief executive challenged those responsible for spreading the rumor to have themselves included in the city's payroll so they would know that the city is not paying those casual workers P280 but only P200 per day.
The city purposely hired the casual workers to augment the working force of the City Engineers Office (CEO), Office of Public Services and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) who are cleaning up the mud and debris left by the flood brought by typhoon Frank. At present, there are only 20 MMDA personnel left here.
The P80 alleged kickback in the salary of each casual worker is only one of the issues that came out regarding the casual workers hired for clean up operations. Before the issue came out information also cropped up that the casual workers hired by the city government are not working according to their work schedules and areas of coverage. The presence of the MMDA workers is more prominent compared with the hired casual workers.
To appraise the public about the schedules and areas of coverage of the casual workers, the city government started releasing a daily update of the areas where the joint working force are deployed. The working force is deployed in various areas in Jaro and Mandurriao districts. Some are also tasked to clean the affected schools.
