An Open Letter
In response to the publication of allegations against DSWD speculating the exchange of imported relief goods to the local ones, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI would like to set the record straight. We have not received U.S. goods.
What we have received were goods coming from the National Resource Operations Center of DSWD Central Office and donations from concerned agencies.
They accused DSWD but could not cite any source. What were printed were mere speculations, without any basis, and thus, not worthy of belief or attention.
We are again challenging the source of this "gossip" to surface and substantiate his/her allegations. The act of printing such material without basis appears to be a bad practice of journalism.
The DSWD is composed of people who are pro-poor who would never dare to do such act.
All the relief goods were released to the Local Government Units (LGUs) as part of our resource augmentation. The LGU thru the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office did the relief distribution. DSWD was not the only source of relief goods but there were other organizations who also did the relief distribution by themselves to the different areas affected by typhoon Frank.
We thus call on the public to dismiss such allegations. The DSWD will always be for the welfare of the poor and the disadvantaged.
