City, prov'l legislators to probe alleged anomalies of top officials
ROXAS CITY – City and provincial legislators will investigate the alleged anomalies that former governor Vicente Bermejo, now city mayor, and former city mayor Antonio Del Rosario, now congressman of the 1st district of Capiz, have committed during their previous administrations.
Del Rosario has accused Bermejo of having a ghost project worth P3.3 million when the latter was still governor of Capiz.
Bermejo's camp also exposed Cong. Antonio del Rosario's alleged payroll padding and financial assistance anomalies.
Both Del Rosario and Bermejo strongly deny that they have committed the anomalies hurled against them.
During last week's regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Board Member Rommel Lastimoso moved that all legacy projects of Bermejo when he was still governor of the province of Capiz be investigated.
Lastimoso is identified as an ally of Del Rosario because his wife is the niece of the latter.
On the other hand, during the Sangguniang Panlungsod's regular session, City Councilor John Anisco also moved that all the alleged anomalies of Del Rosario when he was still city mayor be also investigated.
The said investigation was referred to the Committee on Social Services chaired by Councilor Erwin Sicad and Committee on Good Government chaired by Councilor Jose Agadalipe.
Majority of the members of the city council are identified as supporters of Bermejo.
A city official who requested not to be identified told The News Today Capiz that a former mayor in the first district of Capiz lobbied to stop the rift between the two top ranking officials of the Liberal Party.
According to the same source, the peace negotiation happened. However, the peace talk proved futile when Lastimoso initiated to pursue an investigation on Bermejo's legacy projects prompting the city council to do the same on Del Rosario's alleged anomalies.
