Capiz Red Cross launches campaign to humanize war
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Red Cross will celebrate the International Humanitarian Law Month by conducting a media campaign on human rights issues.
It intends to hold a dialogue with members of the media on the 5th of August."Our country is a signatory to this international law and we would like to educate every Capizeño that even in war, we should respect the inherent rights of every person, combatant or civilian. Red Cross International aims to humanize war under the four Geneva Conventions in 1949 and its two additional Protocols in 1997, by, among others, protecting the rights of the wounded and sick soldiers in the field, of the wounded and sick and shipwrecked soldiers and of the prisoners of war and civilians…" says Atty. Kennith Alovera, Capiz Red Cross Legal Counsel and member of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Charlie Robles, Chairman of the Board, said that the organization will launch media hopping among the print and broadcast media outlets in Capiz. Campaign activities will culminate on August 29, 2008 with a "Walk for Humanity" and with a poster and slogan-making competition among students from both public and private high schools. The Rotary Club of Metro Roxas will render its support by sponsoring the prizes for the contest.
The Walk for Humanity, aside from being a culminating activity for HR awareness campaign is aimed at raising funds for other Red Cross endeavors including the construction of a safe room for its newly purchased refrigerated centrifuge machine and blood separator. It will be participated by Red Cross volunteers and members and by the Local Government Units in 16 municipalities of Capiz, including Roxas City.
