Mayor wants consolidation of city properties in Reclamation Area
BACOLOD CITY -- City Administrator Dr. Roger Balo said yesterday that Mayor Evelio Leonardia is still awaiting the consolidated report from the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) as to the lots owned by the city government at the Reclamation Area.
Dr. Balo said that Mayor Leonardia ordered the consolidation of the properties so as to determine and formulate plans regarding the utilization of the Vendors Plaza and Jeepney Terminal in Reclamation area which has remained idle for some time now. A comprehensive plan for the development of the area for future projects such as hospitals, convention centers, etc. would also be formulated.
Balo said, he called for a meeting with the CPDO last April this year to conduct a study regarding the use of the Vendors Plaza and the Jeepney Terminal. However, the CPDO only submitted a perspective of the project which lacked in details.
Dr. Balo challenges the CPDO to first consolidate the city properties, after which, to make a plan that would be taken up during the City Development Council meeting.
Meanwhile, the City Administrator announced yesterday that the new slaughterhouse in Brgy. Handumanan will be fully operational this coming August 15, 2008. Balo said that some meat vendors were already utilizing the new slaughterhouse since August 1 after its "soft opening".
Dr. Balo said that the city will then close and stop the operation of the old slaughterhouse by that time. He disclosed that the city can save millions of pesos with the closure of the old slaughterhouse because the city will no longer be subsidizing its personnel/workers and in operating the facility. He further stressed that some of the 35 workers in the old slaughterhouse shall be employed as members of the special task force that will monitor illegal slaughter activities in the city while others will be employed by AVM Bernardo Engineering Services.
