Yes Club: 'Soon to Open'
(First of two parts)
Be part of the history! Watch for the 'grand opening' of YES Club on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Barangay Gines, Zarraga, Iloilo.
The word YES, as an adverb, indicates agreement, affirmation. It is also a mark of attention, indicating that somebody is ready to give his attention to somebody who has asked for it.
YES, as an acronym for Youth Empowerment for Service (YES), also embodies the denotations of an adverb yes.
The YES Club was born after 34 youths, aged 15 -25, have manifested their agreement and affirmation to be of service to their community. It was after they heeded my invitation months ago for the series of orientation of the club's vision, mission and advocacies.
YES Club, is a barangay-based youth organization that aims at 'building youth leadership for peaceful, orderly and progressive community." It is a non-profit organization that will foster, develop and support youth initiative, empowering their leadership potential and making them a strong representational youth voice in the service and decision making for their barangay…their community.
The organization envisions youth who are responsible, committed, pro-active, and productive in an ever changing society. Its mission is to empower the youth through various public service activities, helping them realize of their vital roles in nation building. The YES was conceptualized and implemented pursuant to the Constitution: "The state recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation building and shall promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well being (Article 11, Section 13).
For the time being, it is an informal group. But, in 6 to 7 months from its launching, YES Club will surely be part of the growing numbers of youth organizations which are recognized by the National Youth Commission.
The YES Club will work towards its 3 major advocacies: protection of the youth, women, and children; protection and preservation of environment and natural resources; and, maintenance of peace and order.
It will also develop linkages with the various national agencies, national organizations, Local Government Units, Non-governmental organizations and other interest groups to foster the spirit of cooperation and establish stronger relations with the other stakeholders of its advocacies.
