'Berdugo' Capitol probe begins today
Capitol's Committee on Public Order and Security begins today the legislative investigation on the alleged misconduct of a top police official.
Called in to serve as resource persons cum complainants are father and son, former Sara Mayor Neptali Salcedo Sr. and Sara Vice Mayor Neptali Salcedo Jr. The two will be joined by the town police chief, Senior Inspector Sohrab Jolipas.
The investigation will be led by committee chairman, First District Board Member Richard Garin. To note, the probe is taking off from last month's privilege speech of Board Member Jeneda Salcedo decrying what she then termed as the "rape of rights" in Northern Iloilo.
Garin in an earlier conference set up the parameters of the committee hearing with today's invite on the Salcedo clan set to be followed by top police officials.
The committee first got the referral last July 16, 2008 primarily for the investigation of alleged atrocities blamed on Chief Inspector Leroy Rapiz.
Among those expected to be addressed were earlier calls by Board Member Salcedo to have Rapiz dismissed from service. Yet in a positive development, the tension between the Salcedo clan and Rapiz has since been resolved with a police-initiated "peace talk."
It was not immediately clear if said peace talks will be considered by the committee though as a resolution to Board Member Salcedo's call for Sanggunian Panlalawigan action.
The committee hearing will be held at the Session Hall and expected to be opened to the media.
