6 city police chiefs to undergo performance evaluation
Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias, officer-in-charge of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), will not implement a reorganization among the six district police station chiefs in the city following his assumption to office. At least for now.
He met with the station chiefs of the six districts and entire staff of the city police Monday and discussed his concerns.
Tobias said he would still assess the performance and tenure of the district police chiefs before any reorganization takes place. The performance of station chiefs is reflected according to their accomplishments. Ideally, each police station chiefs has a tenure of two years.
In a phone interview, Tobias did not mention who among the chiefs of police performed well during the term of his predecessor, Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga.
Meanwhile, Tobias, as the new ICPO chief, said he wants to focus on crime prevention and avert the proliferation of illegal drugs.
He said there should be counter measures on the occurrence of criminalities such as theft, robbery, snatching, Salisi Gang, Bukas Kotse and Akyat Bahay Gang, among others. Proper rules in the conduct of checkpoints must also be observed by the operating units. There should only be "plain view search," Tobias, who is also a lawyer, said.
The police could not search the person and his vehicle without a search warrant. All checkpoints must be conducted in well-lighted areas with corresponding signs. The team to conduct the checkpoint must be led by at least a police inspector with proper uniform. Police must also be courteous when conducting checkpoints, said Tobias.
The city police will also renew its anti-illegal drugs campaign by strengthening the Iloilo City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group headed by the deputy city director.
