Black Nazarene of Quiapo to visit Sapian Aug. 15-22
SAPIAN, Capiz – The black image of Nazarene of Quiapo will arrive this Friday August 15 and it will stay here until the 22nd of this month.
Sapian Mayor Arturo Orosco, Sr., Ph.D told The News Today that the image will arrive in Culasi and it will be brought to Sapian through motorcade. Thousands of devotees from all over Western Visayas are expected to Black Nazarene.
On August 22, the visit of the famous image will be capped by a procession in the afternoon and it will be brought back to its home, Quiapo on August 23.
Orosco will be celebrating his birthday on August 22, the same day he will also deliver his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) where the mayor's accomplishments and achievements will be unveiled.
Orosco said it will be the first time for the image to visit Sapian town so he asked devotees to take advantage of the opportunity.
Orosco's wife Dr. Evangeline "Vangie" Orosco, Ph.D. is helping in the preparations for the arrival of the Black Nazarene.
It was learned that the couple are active devotees of all kinds of religious statues in various parts of the country for the past 30 years.
The mayor also said that he was crediting the family's success to their deep religiosity as shown by their active involvement in religious affairs.
Last year, Our Lady of Manaoag also visited Sapian town courtesy of the Orosco couple.
The Black Nazarene is a burned life-size image of Jesus Christ carrying a cross. The statue was brought to Manila on May 31,1606 by Augustinian Recollect missionaries from Mexico aboard a ship that caught fire.
Though the image was burned, people decided to preserve and honor it. Since then miracles have been reported by those who touch the image, prompting the Church to make the Black Nazarene the patron saint of Quiapo
