Dengue cases drop by 50% in Negros Occidental
The number of dengue cases in the province dramatically dropped by almost 50 percent based on hospital reports.
Provincial Health Officer Luisa Efren said that from January 1 to August 2 of this year, a total of 692 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals here, a sharp decrease compared to 1,296 cases in 2007 of the same period.
The top 10 Local Government Units with the most number of patients include Bago- 156 cases, Silay City 74, Talisay City 68, La Carlota 46, Sagay City 39, Pontevedra 25, Manapla 24, Kabankalan 22, Victorias City 21 and Cadiz City 19.
Five LGUs had only two dengue cases. These are: municipalities of Hinobaan, Candoni, Don Salvador Benedicto, Toboso and Sipalay City.
Efren said dengue mosquitoes can be avoided by cleaning the surroundings and covering of water containers to prevent the growth of young dengue mosquitoes.
Water ways and stagnant waters should also be checked as it is usually the breeding ground of the deadly mosquitoes. (PIA-LOL)
