City council okays conversion of 14 city streets to national roads
The City Council has approved the conversion of 14 city streets into national roads so that the maintenance and repair of these roads will be included in the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district engineering office.
City Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo, in Wednesday's regular session, said that city Mayor Jerry Treñas requested him to initiate the reclassification of the city roads into national roads and its maintenance be included in the DPWH budget.
The city has no funds to maintain the road sections of Loboc to PPA, Lapuz area; Jalandoni Street, City Proper; Coastal Road; Tacas Road from Quintin Salas to Jaro Pavia Boundary; Molo Boulevard, Molo; Cubay to Balabago Road, Jaro; Rizal Street, La Paz; Rizal Street, City Proper; San Rafael to Tabucan, Mandurriao; Sto. Rosario-Duran, City Proper; Gloryville to So-oc, Arevalo; Delgado, City Proper; Timawa Avenue, Molo and Jereos Street, La Paz.
Peñaredondo said the city has 32 kilometers of city roads and 65 kilometers of national roads.
He said the 14 road sections if converted to national roads, will greatly ease the city in providing funds for maintenance and repair.
This city has suffered a slash on its Internal Revenue Allotment share from the national government and has to pay the mandatory salary increases to its employees.
Peñaredondo said that the city will submit the request to the DPWH district engineering office immediately. (PNA)
