DENR turns over P2-M financial assistance to Panay Island
Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Jose L. Atienza, Jr. on Friday turned over P2 million in financial assistance to four provinces of Panay Island that were affected by Typhoon Frank.
The provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo received P500,000 each.
The checks were received by Governor Niel Tupas for Iloilo; Vice Governor Rhodora Cadiao for Antique; Engr. Kenneth Almabis for Aklan and Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Rommel Lastimoso for Capiz.
The assistance will be used for seedling production, reforestation projects, bamboo plantation, topographic and hydrographic survey, establishment of baseline information and other projects the recipient wishes to implement.
Secretary Atienza took the initiative of setting aside the said funds upon knowing of the impact of the typhoon in Panay.
The typhoon caused landslides and flooding that led to the displacement of thousand of families and over 200 deaths.
It also uprooted hundreds of trees in private plantations and government reforestation projects. (PNA)
