No helmet policy nets 2,500 drivers
BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) here apprehended a total of 1,358 motorcycles and tricycles from January to August of this year in an effort to strictly enforce traffic rules and impose maximum safety to all motorists.
Police records show authorities also apprehended 2,567 drivers licenses that were turned-over to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Report further showed clearing of major streets resulted in the apprehension of 2,102 pedicabs locally known as trisikad.
Renewed campaign against non-wearing of helmets, drivers and tandem, have raised substantial amount in fines that reached P150,000 for the first seven days of implementation.
Severe penalties are now slapped against violators including a fine of P150 and citation ticket for first offense, P500 for being nabbed the second time and citation ticket and 30 days suspension of license, a fine of P1000 with seminar at the LTO for those apprehended the third time.
Last August 15, city ordinance 465-2008 took effect prohibiting children below seven years-old from riding motorcycle as backrider. (PIA-LOL)
