Family, friends bid final goodbye to Kasamang Martin Roxas
MAAYON, Capiz – Colleagues, family and friends of slain radio commentator Martin Roxas said their last goodbye Monday during the latter's interment at the public cemetery here.
Some 5,000 people from all walks of life attended the necrological service for Roxas held at the Maayon Civic Center before the holy mass officiated by Aglipayan clergy Most Rev. Abdias R. de la Cruz, Msgr. Isagani Fabito, Msgr. Samson Ga Cordero and Rev. Fr. Lory Ramos.
Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) Area Manager for Visayas Joeny Bigay in his message during the necrological service said Roxas was a good husband and father to his wife and children.
He assured that the cause and crusade of Kasamang Martin will be continued by his colleagues at RMN in the entire country.
"His untimely demise is not an end of his cause and crusade for telling the truth," Bigay said adding he wants justice for Roxas' killing.
Speakers during the necrological service were: Ely Abarra, station manager of RMN-dyVR; Mr. Rey Casumpang, a close friend of Roxas; Mayor Belegio Dueñas of Maayon; Roxas City Fire Marshal Pancho de la Cruz; and Roxas' wife Jayna Roxas.
Local government units who passed resolutions of sympathy and condemnation for Martin Roxas' killing were: Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Capiz read by Board Member Gilbert Ardivila; Roxas City SP-Liga Pres. Wilson Acervo; Maayon Sanggunian Bayan (SB) Noel Diestro; Cuartero-Ronald Guillermo; Pontevedra-Alan Catalan.
Sen. Mar Roxas also sent his message which was read by Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera and Rotary Club of Metro Roxas-former City Councilor Mark Ortiz.
The necrological service was also attended by Vice Gov. Felipe Barredo, Board Members Baden Cantiller and Ricky Martin, print and broadcast media, public officials and among others.
Martin Roxas was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding suspects at around 1:30 p.m. on August 7 along Bayot Drive here. He has just finished his noon time program "Targetanay sa Udto" and was about to go home for lunch during the incident.
