Napocor finalizes purchase of 14 gensets for Iloilo City
The National Power Corporation (Napocor) is finalizing the purchase agreement with the winning bidder for the 15 units of modular generator sets to augment the power needs of Iloilo City.
Engr. Nelson Homena, head of the Napocor regional office based in Dingle, said they are firming the contract with the Monarch Engineering Corporation for the purchase of the 15 units of modular generator sets.
Homena said the Napocor's legal department is now evaluating the purchase contract. He could not give the definite time on when the gensets be made available for the city's use. It will take a few more months, he said.
Panay Electric Company (Peco) is reportedly willing to allot a space for the generator units at its vacant lot along the diversion road free of charge for one year. After that period, Peco and Napocor will have to renegotiate with a contract for an extension for the use of space with pay.
Each modular generator set has the capacity of one megawatt. The installation of gensets is one of the solutions presented by Napocor when the city government asked for additional power from its Panay Grid. The power coming from the Panay Grid is not sufficient to supply the needs of the populace.
Napocor has pledged to procure at least 20 generator units for the city after it has already set in place 15 units in Panit-an, Capiz last May to augment the power supply in Capiz and some parts of Iloilo province. It was Napocor President Cyril del Callar who promised the establishment of 15 modular gensets for Iloilo City.
