6th ABS-CBN Interschool Newscasting Competition
College level competition.
Participants for the prestigious ABS-CBN Interschool Newscasting competition for both elementary and high school have reached to close a thousand – the highest record in six years. Private and public schools from the province and city of Iloilo have sent the best of their best.
From hundreds, 16 grand finalists were chosen from each category (English, Filipino and Hiligaynon) in the Elementary level. A total of 46 contestants for the three categories in High school level qualified in the grand finals.
In the tertiary level, seven students taking different courses from major universities in Iloilo City have competed for the coveted title of the grand champion.
All participants were thoroughly screened by distinguished panel of judges coming from the field of Academe and Media.

A week before the grand finals, a special workshop was given to them by ABS-CBN Iloilo. Lectures on news writing, news delivery, and proper attire were shared to them. August 23 marked the Grand finals of the competition.
Distinguished guest from the English Department of Department of Education Regional Office 6, Dr. Lilibeth Estoque has expressed their gratitude to ABS-CBN for spearheading an educational and worthwhile activity for the Ilonggo students.
Iloilo city Mayor Jerry Treñas has praised the station for being in the forefront of activities helping the Ilonggo community and driving Ilonggo students to pursue excellence.
In the Elementary Level, Christopher John Artillo of Anilao Elementary School stood out and won first place in the English Category. Jeiya Nicole De Castro from West Visayas State University Integrated Laboratory School won in the Filipino Category. Marie Angela Blancaflor from University of San Agustin bagged the championship in the Hiligaynon category.
In the secondary level, Trixie Shane Ledesma from Integrated Scholastic Academy won in the English Category. Shermin Delgado from SPED-ISEC was declared champion in the Filipino Category. Donita Salazar from Assumption Iloilo was hailed champion in the Hiligaynon category.
In the Tertiary Level, West Visayas State University bagged the championship as DT Joy Gener, a senior Mass Communication student bested 6 other contenders from John B Lacson Foundation Maritime University, St. Paul University – Iloilo, University of the Philippines in the Visayas, University of San Agustin and University of Iloilo.
