AFP sends 1 battalion of Ilonggo soldiers to Lanao
One battalion of Ilonggo soldiers from the 15th Infantry Division based in Jamindan, Capiz are off to Mindanao.
A decision reached by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) hierarchy, the Ilonggo soldiers will provide needed-augmentation on government offensives in the area.
Captain Lowen Gil Marquez, AFP commanding officer of the 3rd Civil Relations Group confirmed the deployment.
"We wish our men goodluck and pray for their safety and victory. And more than ever, we are proud of our soldiers who are doing this for the country," Captain Marquez told The News Today (TNT).
It was not immediately clear if said deployment will be followed by yet another battalion. However as fighting continues and persists in Mindanao particularly in Lanao area, sources told TNT that it is likely more deployments will be ordered.
Unfortunately, among the casualties in latest skirmishes between government forces and Muslim terrorist rebels are Ilonggo soldiers.
The recent inclusion in the list are two Marines, one was killed in action while another was wounded.
"We are all ready to serve and fight for our country and countrymen. Whatever it takes, the good soldiers that we all are, when duty calls for deployment, then we go and serve," Captain Marquez added.
