BCPO to get new headquarters worth P12.5M
BACOLOD CITY – The city government will help put up a new headquarters for the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) worth P12.5 million.
This was announced by Mayor Evelio "Bing" Leonardia during his State of the City Address (SOCA) last Monday, September 8, held at the New Government Center.
Leonardia noted that the city was blessed with a relatively peaceful year ending June 30, 2008 with no incidence of high profile crimes such as kidnapping, bank robbery, arson, liquidation, sabotage or violent terroristic incidents like bombing and other similar happenings.
The mayor underscored the BCPO's efforts, under the leadership of Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, in conducting more frequent saturation drives and random checkpoints in strategic areas, mobilizing force multipliers like barangay tanods and security guards and other anti-crime groups.
Leonardia said that within one year period, the police intensified law enforcement operation which led to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against 85 personalities engaged in illegal drugs, 94 persons engaged in illegal gambling, 37 persons with loose firearms, 229 persons involved in cellphone snatching and robbery hold-ups and 156 wanted persons wherein 20 of whom are facing capital offenses.
Other significant accomplishments mentioned by the local chief executive on the BCPO report were the arrest and neutralization of various criminal gangs operating in Bacolod City specifically Salisi Gang suspect Michael Ray Contreras and Sheila Nuable, Baluyot/Mahinga Theft Gang, Gabornay Robbery Hold-up Gang most especially the arrest of seven suspects from this gang that led to the resolution of 85 percent of robbery/hold-up cases in Bacolod City, Temblor Group allegedly responsible for water meter and water pipe pilferages and Sambilad Robbery Group allegedly responsible for arson with robbery.
Meanwhile, the mayor also reported that the city spent P350,000 to renovate the office of the Traffic Management Unit/Bacolod Traffic Authority (BTA).
