'Gov't, people forces' next Red targets, says AFP
A new 'hitlist' is reportedly in place put together by the local hierarchy of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
From businessmen and corporate executives who refuse to heed extortion demands to law enforcement agents, fresh targets are reportedly in.
Captain Lowen Gil Marquez, commanding officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP) 3rd Civil Relations Group, confirmed the report.
The 'hitlist', Captain Marquez disclosed, is comprised by "government and people-forces." And this, he added, was validated after series of tips from civilian informants.
"Communist terrorists' latest plan in Region 6 is to ambush government and people forces in order to show that the dwindling NPAs are still strong even if in reality, they are weak," Captain Marquez told The News Today (TNT).
It was not immediately clear what specific "government and people forces" are being targeted yet Captain Marquez said, public warning is out anew.
Just last week the AFP worked on securing a team of medical volunteer workers out for a medical mission in Leon, Iloilo. It was reported by AFP news here that communist terrorists were out to plant landmines in the route of the medical mission team.
Captain Marquez added though that it could have been a diversionary tactic following separate information of planned attack in the town of Tubungan and Alimodian, Iloilo.
Security was doubled in said areas as no attacks or communist offensives occurred.
"It is always better to be safe than sorry. These communist terrorists strike anywhere and anytime where they can just wreck havoc and chaos. Our best defense still is community involvement and that is how we are able to be a step ahead of their planned destabilization and criminalities," Captain Marquez ended.
